Man oh man that engine is rough when it kicks in. Going up in a hill, for exmaple, the engine kicks on and ugh, it sounds unrefined and rough.
On a more positive note, it averaged 50.6 MPG on a trip to and from PA which was over 150 miles. I can also report the first fill up waa 8.2 gallons, which is insane.
Hm, what else...it’s comfy, dead quiet when its running on the battery, the steering is super light, I love the camera on the right mirror that comes on when you signal a right turn, and yeah that’s really it; my mom loves it and that’s all that really matters

same with the clarity... it’s nice and quiet on electric but when it runs in hybrid mode, it sounds like this

The first time I got a loaner BMW with the 4-cylinder and auto-start/stop, I was astounded at how unrefined the experience was...

That’s why you turn that off. Does your E90 have the stop start or was it added later?

I can’t believe that I’m about to say this, but Honda should taken a lesson from Chevrolet. I was quite impressed when I borrowed my dad’s Volt for a day when I was out for a visit last year. Yes, you know when the ICE kicks in, buts it’s fairly unobtrusive.
The mileage? Wonderful. He rarely puts gas in it, charging off of the solar panels on the roof, but I gave it a bit of a workout. I drove about 250 miles, and at the end of the day put 4 gallons in it. Taking out the 50 miles or so of battery power that came out to be over 50 MPG. I didn’t thrash it or do those annoying hypermiling tricks, nor did I drive it like a normal car, but did pay attention to the various modes and tried to get a fair amount of regen.
For a commuter I’d love to have a hybrid. The only downside I noticed was the heft. Hybrids are great for economy and normal driving, but too heavy to toss around in the corners, one of my favorite things.

I don’t know why, but I like the ELR (just a gussied up Volt) .
Help.

W e had an older civic hybrid as a fleet car at work for a while and that was my primary gripe - the transition wasn’t smooth. You would roll backward at lights, rolling up to stop the motor would kick off and the car would stop short, etc - the Prius seemed to have that hammered out a bit better for some reason.

My TLX’s stop/start can be bad, the cold has made it worse

Can you turn it off? Or is it like Chevy’s where it can’t be disabled.

It’s as if they made the engine sound like crap on purpose. You feel bad when you step on the gas and let off a bit. I probably get better gas mileage simply because I don’t want to hear that engine spin up.
My mom recently bought an Accord Hybrid. I’m curious to see if it has the same problem.
Your MPG is impressive. I’m averaging 38, and every review I have seen has been WAY below the H onda quoted MPG.

Mine has it but there is a button to turn it off, and, by that, I mean you it’s off until you turn it back on.

It actually stays off the next time you start the car? That’s good.

I’m pretty sure BMW programmed it that way because it knew a vast majority of owners don’t care about the feature and want it off. I rented a Mercedes B-class in Germany and you had to turn it off every time; that was more than irritable.

The ELR was/is a nice car. The only issue was the pricing was detached from reality.

Nah... in the case of the ELR, they were asking Tesla Model S money with nowhere near the level of performance, prestige or wow-factor
